OLPC is creating educational opportunities for the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop designed for self-empowered learning. When children have access to this type of tool they become engaged in their own education. You can help in a number of ways: host a fundraising drive, help at a nearby pilot or simply tell your friends.
Currently there are more than 1 million XO's in over 20 developing countries, from Peru and Haiti to Ethiopia, Rwanda, Afghanistan and Mongolia. The XO laptop is a learning tool designed and built especially for children in developing countries.
The XO is the size of a small textbook and made with a rugged plastic exterior. It has built-in wireless and a unique sunlight-readable screen that makes it usable by children in outdoor classrooms. It is ultra-low power, using only about 4 watts of power and when there is no electricity, it can be recharged with alternate power sources like solar power.
